What is Yoga?
 
Yoga is a 4,000 year old system of health and wellbeing. The benefits of yoga are multidimensional, physical, emotional, and spiritual. Many people are attracted to yoga practice initially for the physical benefits, which are innumerable, but realize over time that Yoga has improved their lives. Yoga provides a complete "workout and workin" that strengthens and tones the body, mind, and improves posture, relieves pain and connects us to spirit. 
 
What is Iyengar Yoga?  

Iyengar Yoga promotes integration of body, mind and spirit through the practice of Traditional Hatha yoga postures (asanas) and breathing techniques (pranayama).

Based on ancient yogic practices as interpreted by contemporary Yoga Master Yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar, Iyengar Yoga places special emphasis on developing strength, endurance, balance and correct body alignment. Suitable for all ages and abilities,

Iyengar Yoga classes vary from gentle to vigorous and are aimed at developing students’ inner awareness.
 

Certified Iyengar Yoga teachers undergo a three to five year teacher training program which follows the rigorous international standards set by Yogacharya B.K.S. Iyengar.

Iyengar Yoga teachers must demonstrate knowledge in:

• Physical postures (asana) and yogic breathing (pranayama)

• Anatomy

• Yoga philosophy

• Precautions for instructing students safely

What is Hatha Yoga?
 
Hatha yoga is a physical and mental discipline which trains the body and mind and connects us to our spirituality. When most Westerners think of Yoga they are actually thinking about hatha yoga. 
 
The most famous aspect of Hatha yoga is the postures or asana which are used to strenghen, stretch, and tone the body. Another important aspect of Hatha Yoga is pranayama, or breathwork. During yoga sessions one is very mindful of their breath and may practice breathwork. 
 
The practice of Meditation is also deemed part of Hatha Yoga which help to promote stillness, peace and connection.  Hatha yoga helps one to connect mind, body and spirit.
